See, do and experience

Algarve

The Algarve, the most southwestern tip of Europe, is an oasis of beautiful sandy beaches, sleepy traditional fishing villages, world class golf courses, pristine mountain villages, international marinas and year-round sunshine. For thousands of years, it is a coveted area with a colorful history. The Algarve is the starting point for great explorations, a wonderful place to explore for you and your family

Beaches

There are about 100 attractive beaches along the Algarve coast. The waters of the Atlantic can be surprisingly warm even in the winter months. Just a short walk (800 meters) from the Alto Country Club you will find Praia de Alvor, a five kilometer long sandy beach, with rocky coves on the east side.

For apartment Laranja the distance to a sheltered sandy beach between the rocks (Praia do Barranco das Canas) is only 250 meters.

Apartment Bougainville is situated at 1000 meters from Praia do Vau.

The Mountains

Away from the immediate coastal plain are the foothills leading up to the highest point Foia (902 meters) above the unspoilt village of Monchique. This mountainous region is known for its Roman terraces with granite stone walls where local vegetables are grown. A ride on the narrow roads around the mountains is very rewarding and provides spectacular views.

This area is perfect to plan walks. The altitude ensures that it never really gets too hot.

Alvor

Although this ancient coastal village is a very popular holiday destination, the narrow streets still breathe a traditional atmosphere. Here you will find unique restaurants and bars with live music. With a natural lagoon overlooking the sea the village has a very special location. At the newly renovated quayside you will find bars and terraces where you can enjoy the beautiful sunset holding a splendid cocktail.

The Area

Portimão is situated at the mouth of the Rio Arade a ten minutes drive from Alvor. Closest to the sea is the Portimao Marina, a fascinating new development of brightly colored apartments, luxury yachts and fancy restaurants. Further up the river,  you will find the fishing port where you can eat grilled sardines fresh from the boats. Many local and international shops  are located in the city center. Very useful are the big supermarkets and a cinema with many English-language films.

Praia da Rocha - At the coast between Alvor and Portimão the vast sandy beach of Praia da Rocha is situated. On top of the massive cliffs is the strip, a world of bars and night clubs open from dusk until dawn. Praia da Rocha is the place in the evening to go to if you want to dance all night. Located just 10 minutes from Alvor, but far enough to ensure the peace in Alvor.

Lagos is an important stopover for yachts heading to the Azores and is located about half an hour west of Alvor. With a large number of good restaurants and a variety of shops with traditional Portuguese food and designer brands Lagos guarantees a great day trip.
